Google Zeitgeist 2011: Year In Review

An amazing video summary of the year that Google started putting together last year. To me the biggest story of the year is the collective protesting that we have seen take place around the world. Whether protesting for political reform (Egypt & Sudan) or equality (Occupy), it seems that citizens around the world feel more empowered than ever before. With the proliferation of information access through social media, this is not a trend I think will fade away anytime soon.

To only further solidify this ongoing trend, TIME Magazine named it’s coveted Person of the Year to simply be “The Protestor”.

The Importance Of Listening

“The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them.”

— Dr. Ralph Nichols

Toxic Love

“You feel hopeless, like nothing can save you. And when it’s over and it’s gone, you almost wish you could have all the bad stuff back, so you can have the good.”

So Far So Good – Local Advancers

Check out the video above for an inspiring and eye opening short feature on a young Winnipeg entrepreneur . Peter Takis may only be 16 years old but that didn’t stop him from launching a rapidly growing street wear brand from his bedroom in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

I have never met Peter personally, but I can’t help but be impressed by how mature, confident and poised he is about his business at such a young age.

Definitely going to have to make a trip to The Urban Bakery soon and pick up a Local Advancers shirt.

Kaskade Featuring Mindy Gledhill – Eyes

I have always been a fan of Kaskade since hearing his breakout hits “Move For Me” and “I Remember” (both with Deadmau5) and the rest of his “Strobelite Seduction” release but hadn’t paid much attention to him for the past year. After hearing a few weeks ago that he was recently voted the Number 1 DJ In America (beating out the likes of Wolfgang Gartner, Skrillex and Steve Aoki) and caused a riot in LA, I began digging around for some more tracks by him to build my library. The song above blew me away.

It is amazing how good, uplifting music can pull you through even the most difficult hurdles you will face in your life.
